With the fan always on when my TV is on I stopped having issues. Kinect consciously turning off on its own. Try it yourself: go to the settings, Kinect and look what Kinect can see. Than cover the main camera lenses and I mean just the camera. As you change to the infrared view you can still see everything clearly. Those red lights will turn off as soon as you start a game but at apps or the dashboard they are constantly watching you.
I got an adapter (cheap Chinese knock-off, since the official one was discontinued long ago), and tried it on my Series X.
